If you are a home tour aficionado, the Winnetka Heights Holiday Home Tour is undoubtedly one of the best. This is the 34th year for the tour, which runs Dec. 10 from noon to 6 pm. It’s a great way to kick off the holiday season.

For our newcomers unfamiliar with Winnetka Heights, the neighborhood is the best example of preserved, intact, turn-of-the-century homes in Dallas.

In 1911 The Russell Realty Company advertised it as the ideal suburb. Present-day homeowners will tell you that description is entirely accurate. The 50-square block area was developed by L.A. Stemmons, T.S. Miller Jr., J.P. Blake, and R.S. Waldron. All of them chose to build their homes in the historic neighborhood.

The J.P. Blake home at 401 North Rosemont Ave. is now the home of the Oak Cliff Society for the Fine Arts. Winnetka Heights became the city’s sixth historic district in 1981, and in 1983 it was recognized by the National Register of Historic Places.

Winnetka Heights Trivia

Today there are more than 600 homes in Winnetka Heights. Five historic Craftsman homes and bungalows are featured this year, and the tour includes a silent auction with items from local artists and businesses.

The tour committee graciously offered two pairs of tickets to Daltxrealestate.com readers who get the following questions right!

  1. Which of these beautiful homes was featured on Daltxrealestate.com two years ago?
  2. One of the four Winnetka Heights developers, Mr. J.P. Blake, owned 401 N. Rosemont, so why is it called the Turner House?
  3. Winnetka Heights has only two surviving original structures. Which will you see on the Winnetka Heights Holiday Home Tour?
  4. There are two reasons you would have heard music at 401 Rosemont Ave. What are they?

Bonus Question!

There is a neighborhood story about why the lots on Rosemont Avenue are so deep. Do you know why?

We know you may only get some of these, but whoever gets the most answered correctly will win. Good luck!
