Building 5West Into a BusinessBringing Details to The Forefront

There are a lot of remodelers out there. Some are bad, some are good, and some are so good that they’re special. That last part describes 5West Homes.

What makes them so special? Well, for starters, they’re a husband-and-wife team — Ken and Ann West. They started 5West after a series of home renovations. Ann said she’d renovated their home so many times, she needed a business. Mostly to keep her from doing more to her own home.

Since then, they’ve been creating semi-custom homes that are seriously stunning. That’s Part II in the series of why they’re special. The materials, the thought, and the attention to detail in each one of these homes are top-freaking-notch.

Building 5West Into a Business

Ann said on every project they want to create a home that not only stands out but also fits with the neighborhood. It’s that slight tweak that makes each home look and feel so dang … say it with me … SPECIAL.

With every project, they said they start with the obvious. Who’s the buyer? But then they take it one step further and ask the important questions: How will they live? How will they cook? How will they entertain? Or will they entertain?

Who knows? The Wests do. By creating that profile ahead of time, they’re able to create the ideal space. It informs every decision they make, from layout to cabinet colors. Like, seriously. Everything.

Another thing 5West is known for? Creating a space that works with both traditional and modern styles. Even the special details can work either way. Which is number three on the “why so special” list.

Bringing Details to The Forefront

The DETAILS. In their latest project, which just listed, Ann said they created a farmhouse door leading into the primary bath. But they used a vintage door. Those are the thoughtful details that make it stand out. A creative use of space and materials.

Ann said the wooden door also adds warmth to the space which is another detail high on her checklist. She likes to use warm neutrals and a soft unexpected color palette because she, like the rest of us, is so over the stark white.

Okay, the final thing — at least in this write-up — is the contractors 5West works with. It’s a family of contractors and subcontractors. That’s right. It’s one family (5West) working with another family (contractors) to create gorgeous single-family homes.

Now how about that?

The listing features impeccable staging by {neighborhood} store. Interestingly, Ann discovered JP and Erin Hossley of {neighborhood} have a staging business when she was in the middle of purchasing a killer painting for her own home.

Not only is Ken one of the owners of 5West, he’s also the listing agent. (It’s all in the family.) He has their latest remodel at 9066 Longmont Drive listed for $1.85 million.
