Despite only being in her mid-20s, Macey Snyder has already made a name for herself in sales and design. Now the Texas Tech alum is ready to take on real estate as an agent for JP and Associates.

Those who travel to West Texas may recognize the family name. The Snyder’s stores in Seymour and Childress are community staples, selling hardware, building materials and other home essentials.

“We’re just kind of a little one-stop shop for a small town,” Snyder said. She grew up in Seymour, a town of less than 3,000 people nearly an hour away most big-name retailers. When the local western wear store in Childress closed a few years ago, her family decided to start selling clothing as well.

Snyder’s father soon realized that fashion wasn’t his forte, so he turned to his daughter for help. She created a small clothing boutique within the store that became popular with residents. The experience was a crash course in business, and she quickly became adept at negotiating deals and working with various suppliers to get what she wanted.

“I learned that you have to listen to what they (customers) want,” she said. “I obviously have my style and what I’d want to buy, but if I don’t listen to them, the product will sit on the shelves for months and months and I’ll just have to eat it.”

While managing the boutique, Snyder also started remodeling homes. Her first major project was a house in Wichita Falls that she had taken down to the studs and then updated. She describes her style as a mix of contemporary modern and farmhouse, and she enjoys being hands-on throughout the process.

After briefly living in Wichita Falls where she worked as a children’s speech therapist, Snyder moved to Dallas full time. Going forward, she plans to focus primarily on residential properties in both Dallas and the Plano/Allen area.

“This is a whole new career for me,” Snyder said. “I’ve always been intrigued and inspired by interior design. Getting into real estate and having that entrepreneurial spirit puts all of those things together.”

And as if new a home and career weren’t enough to keep her busy, Snyder will also marry her longtime fiancé next spring, though she admits that planning for the big day will be put on the back burner for the next few months.
