Winsome Winnetka Heights Prairie Will Win You Over With Big Spaces, Serene Style

There’s something truly charmed about a historic home in Dallas. We don’t have that many of them (with more disappearing every year), and many haven’t been kept in good condition over the years.

That’s just two reasons why today’s Thursday Three Hundred was such a pleasure to discover. The home at 211 N. Edgefield Ave. is a winsome Prairie-style Four Square in North Oak Cliff’s Winnetka Heights. Its big spaces and light-filled rooms flow easily and this 1924 structure has been lovingly maintained.

With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 2,398 square feet on two stories, this is a good-sized house for the era. The location is prime, and the price is right. Let’s take a look before a buyer snatches it up.

Winnetka Heights is the largest historic district in Dallas, located in North Oak Cliff, south of the Trinity River. It was platted in 1908, advertised as “Dallas’ Ideal Suburb” by the Russell Realty Company in 1911. Today, the area is a marvelous collection of one-story frame bungalows and two-story Prairie-influenced homes. This is the most intact of the early 20th century neighborhoods in Oak Cliff with more than 600 residential structures and 20 commercial structures situated on 50 city blocks.

Our Thursday Three Hundred is located near W. Davis and N. Polk streets, walking distance to the Kessler Theater and minutes away from the Bishop Arts District by car or bike. It has fantastic curb appeal, with mature landscaping.

The entry of the home opens into a formal living room, with hardwood floors, a brick fireplace, stairs leading to the second story, and easy flow to the sunroom and a second living area. The kitchen is remodeled with granite counters, lots of cabinets, pendant and recessed lights, and views of the second living area. Nearby, the separate utility room has full-size washer-dryer hookups and room for a freezer.

The master bedroom is filled with natural light, and its ensuite bathroom offers a jetted tub, dual sinks, separate shower, and walk-in closet. This is a generously sized room, measuring 18-by-14 feet. The other two bedrooms are good-sized, as well, each measuring 16-by-14 feet.

Because this house was built in 1924, there is no garage (there weren’t really a lot of cars back then), but there is covered parking for two vehicles.

This home was listed Sept. 8 by Crystal Gonzalez with David Griffin & Company for $379,000.
