A Preston Hollow Listing with Hockey History: First Mike Modano, Now Tyler Seguin

Oh my Stars! Here’s a listing that got my attention: 6424 Mimosa Lane, hockey phenom Tyler Seguin’s home!  It’s just your average 24-year-old sports superstar’s 7,250-square-foot abode, and a typical gig for the listing agent, Julie Provenzano, broker associate with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, who’s become something of a superstar herself as the official real estate agent of the Dallas Stars.

Here are details on this knock-out Preston Hollow property you can tour at an open house event, Sunday, Oct. 23, from 1 to 3 p.m., and how Provenzano came to be in her role with the team:Built in 1999, the five-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bath house on a 0.43 acre lot in Preston Hollow was the residence of NHL Hall of Famer and Stars’ great Mike Modano for many years. Seguin, who was the second overall NHL draft pick in 2010, was selected by the Boston Bruins and experienced his first Stanley Cup win there in his rookie year at the tender age of 19. He was reportedly a bit too rowdy for Boston and was traded to the Dallas Stars in 2013. (Hmm, strange! He seems to have fit right in here!)

Looking for a house in Dallas at the end of his first season as a Star, Seguin toured Modano’s then-listed home and was charmed by the extensive entertaining areas, media room, and fitness space. (No doubt, the ratification of ownership by hockey legend Modano didn’t hurt!) Seguin bought the Mimosa house in 2014 and has been actively involved in updating it from a heavy, Tuscan-inspired vibe to its current contemporary white-and-gray decor.

Provenzano’s background? Raised in the Northeast and a graduate of  the University of Virginia, her first job was creating web content as a sports media producer for the Washington Capitals NHL team in Washington, D.C., where she later transitioned into real estate and often represented players on the team. Her husband Frank’s  job as assistant general manager of the Stars brought Provenzano to Dallas in 2006. She got to know players here.

Fast-forward to 2016. She is now a team sponsor — “the official real estate agent of the Dallas Stars” — and has represented Jamie Benn, Kari Lehtonen, Jason Spezza, Ales Hemsky, and Antti Niemi, among others, in transactions. Listing the house for Seguin was a natural fit. Provenzano has it on the market for $2.1 million.

On the main floor, there is an office adjacent to spacious living areas:

It has a modern, renovated  kitchen with a commercial grade range:

And a master suite, plus an additional guest room. Love the art on the wall depicting a guy crouched in a duck walk stance, a classic hockey player drill!

The backyard amenities include a lovely saltwater pool, kitchen, cabana, fire pit, and putting green. There’s a three-car garage, too.

Curious, I asked Provenzano where Sequin might be moving to; “He’s looking into a place with more acreage,” she said. And, I asked, in general, what do Stars players look to for in housing? “The single guys like Uptown’s convenience and nightlife,” she noted. “Overall, they want easy to access to the Tollway to get to Frisco where they practice, the American Airlines Center for games, and Love Field, home base for the Dallas Stars’ private jet.”

I am watching the Stars play the Nashville Predators (what a name!) as I write this.  Seguin is ranked as one of the best players in the world, has won numerous accolades since coming to Dallas (including the first-ever Mike Modano Award for most points scored in the season 2013-14) and is known as one of the hardest-working members of the team. The top line of the Stars, which Seguin plays on with Jamie Benn, is a force to be reckoned with.  Perhaps, Seguin will skate holding a Stanley Cup aloft again in the future, and be named to the NHL Hall of Fame, too. And perhaps you would like a connection to that heritage, owning a Preston Hollow home with serious hockey history. You know who to call.

As for Provenzano, she has a clear knack for guiding pro players through the real estate process. Is there another team she’d like to represent? “The Mavericks,” she said without hesitation. “I am not quite 5 feet,  but I can carry myself like I’m 7 feet tall,” she said, laughing. “I’d like to walk through houses with them!”
