This Luxurious Decatur Estate Redefines Home on The Range

Decatur estate

If you want to live under the vast starry skies with miles and miles of Texas from every vantage point, this 25-acre luxurious Decatur estate is the perfect spot for your new home on the range.

Over the past few years, we have shifted our views of what is important when it comes to purchasing a luxury property. We now prioritize space and a home that serves multiple generations with plenty of resort amenities on site. But one thing has not changed. Everyone wants land, and you can’t get wide open spaces just anywhere. But you certainly can in Texas, and it’s a big reason people move here.

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above

“Don’t Fence Me In,” lyrics by Robert Fletcher

The main level has soaring ceilings, beautiful, reclaimed redwood floors, and a view of the grasslands.

You don’t have to go very far to see this expansive estate because Decatur is, as we say in Texas, just down the road a piece.

To be specific, it’s about an hour from Preston Hollow in Dallas and just under an hour from Rivercrest in Fort Worth. If you happen to have a helicopter, there’s a landing pad on the property. If you are jetting in after a vacation, you have the privately-owned, public-use Bishop Airport and the city-owned Decatur Municipal Airport.

But with remote work now the norm, you will seldom have to leave this private paradise.

This luxurious Decatur estate, known locally as Casa de Fey, is located between US 380 and 287, perched above the almost 40,000-acre valley that composes the Caddo-LBJ National Grasslands.

The two grasslands together feature four lakes with largemouth bass, blue and channel catfish, and sunfish. Wildlife ranges from white-tailed deer, bobcats, and red fox to bobwhite quail, turkey, and songbirds. If you want to be surrounded by nature, this is the ultimate sweet spot.

“There is the most dramatic view here,” Briggs Freeman listing agent Eric Skeen said. “When you drive up, the expanse of the space and the sheer drama of the buildings draw you in like a magnet,” co-listing agent Pogir Pogir said. “It’s a magical experience, and you cannot fully appreciate it until you step onto the property.”

The approach will certainly mesmerize you, but the residences on this luxurious Decatur estate are just as impressive.

There are four structures on the property: the main house, a guest villa, a pool house, and a large barn. The centerpiece of this magnificent estate is the nearly 8,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style home with custom stonework, stucco accent walls, picturesque arched windows, statement chimneys, and a terra cotta roof.

“The house itself is very grand but has intimate spaces,” Pogir said. “The big open space for entertaining is a wonderful area for large family gatherings as well as company retreats. The property offers so much flexibility.”

The second level has a large landing, perfect for exhibiting artwork, four bedrooms, a theatre room, and a home office.

When it comes to views, they are unmatched. Just imagine sitting on the balcony gazing at the magnificent Texas sunsets over the valley.

This home was built with a large family and complete flexibility in mind. You are not going to run out of space here. There are five bedrooms and bathrooms in the main house.

The pool house features a seating area, game room, kitchen, and two bedrooms with a lofted bunk space. It was designed with walls of garage-style doors that roll up to offer a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience.

Then we have the guest casita with a fitness center, kitchen, and bath on the first floor, and a full apartment on the second.

On the back side of the pool house is a private patio with a hot tub, fire pit, and putting green. An enormous sports court is located between all three living structures.

If all of this is not enough, you can also obtain an agricultural exemption. If you are new to Texas, you might not realize that this is a terrific bonus.

An ag exemption is a special valuation. Agricultural landowners’ property taxes are calculated based on productive agricultural values as opposed to the market value of the land. Agricultural purposes include crop production, livestock, beekeeping, and similar activities. Remember, there is a 5,000-square-foot barn on the property that can easily accommodate an equestrian-focused enterprise.

But wait, there’s more. There is a huge solar farm that fully powers the house. I’m not sure what more anyone could ask for. This is the ultimate luxury estate with a resort lifestyle, complete privacy, significant sustainability, and miles and miles of Texas everywhere you look!
