Vaquero: (n.) Used in reference to cowboys in areas (such as Mexico and the southwestern U.S.) where Spanish is spoken
Cowboy imagery is iconic and legendary, so it’s not surprising that “vaquero” was the name chosen for one of the most exclusive gated communities in North Texas.
It’s easy to imagine vaqueros herding cattle over the rolling hills, taking a break in the shade of ancient post oak and cedar trees. However, what you see now are well-heeled ladies and gentlemen living in gorgeous homes and enjoying the Tom Fazio-designed golf course on that same beautiful land.

I’ve been around a minute, so I still remember the Hunt brothers’ 2,500-acre Circle T Ranch in Westlake. The boys were bigger than life, and so was their ranch.
When a gamble in the silver market ended in bankruptcy, Ross Perot bought the Circle T. As we mosey down the road of history, we know it was sold to Discovery, who developed 525 of the acres into the master-planned development called Vaquero, in 2001. What they created is just about perfect.

Safe And Sound
In gated communities, parents never worry about their kids biking to a friend’s house, and celebrities don’t worry about the paparazzi. Privacy is assured here, and so is security. At any given time, only a handful of properties are available, and this Hill Country modern is one of the prettiest homes I’ve ever seen.

“What stands out in this home is that you don’t have to lift a finger,” Compass Realtor Sarah Christopher said. “Everything is perfect.”
She’s absolutely right. This is what we always want to see — a home that has been updated correctly, beautifully maintained, and in which the decisions of each owner have just made the property better. That is rare.
Veranda Designer Homes updated this 6,820-square-foot Vaquero Hill Country modern a few years ago for a previous owner.
“They put in new floors, new bathrooms, reworked the entry to create a more formal area, and added a powder bath behind it,” Christopher said.

Of course, it’s the main living space that is riveting with walls of windows and French doors overlooking the pool. There is a nice separation between the kitchen and the living areas, which I think we all long for now.

Every home today needs a guest suite, and this one was cleverly designed over the garage. It’s presently serving as a child’s playroom and bedroom.

Anyone with a depth of knowledge about interior designers will notice the deft hand of Emily Hewett’s team at A Well Dressed Home. Their talent took this home over the top, adding those thoughtful elements that make a home quietly luxurious and timeless.

Compass Realtor Sarah Christopher has this Vaquero Hill Country modern at 2201 King Fisher Dr. listed for $4.6 million. It’s available to see by appointment only.
