There’s a Surprise Inside This 1980s Home on W. 12th Street

Man oh man, don’t you love it when you hit upon a Realtor with a wealth of information? RHETORICAL QUESTION! But I do, too, causal Daltxrealestate.com Readers. And this week it was a veritable pot o’ gold with Ebby Halliday’s Brandon Fleeman.

Fleeman’s listing over in Oak Cliff is in one word an anomaly. It’s 1980s construction in Oak Cliff. Tucked over by Kessler Plaza and Ravinia Heights there’s a neighborhood called Terry Heights. Within this neighborhood there are three streets, one block long of 1980s builds. And that is exactly where you’ll find this adorable home.

It’s a two-bedroom, two-bathroom, single-story home that has been updated in every way. But it’s a sneaky one.

The exterior, minus the front door, gives you no indication of what’s inside. Because what’s inside is super modern with gallery walls, two gorgeously updated bathrooms, and a kitchen that has just the right touches to offset all the white.

The seller painted the kitchen cabinets black and added a copper tile backsplash to really make it pop. He also added Elfa shelving in the primary closet and that’s a feature anyone that color coordinates their clothes can appreciate.

In the primary bedroom, a partial wall separates the living space from the closet, which is something you occasionally see in a real-deal midcentury home.

The bathroom, oh the bathroom, was actually completed by the previous owner and features a sleek, super modern stainless steel vanity and charcoal hexagonal tile. That vanity is for sure going to inspire a Google search or two.

Everything inside is crisp and clean, and the attention to detail is all over the place. And if you’re wondering how to update the outsides to match the insides, Fleeman said it’s simple. Paint the brick.

He said there are several over in this very unique little pocket that did just that and they’re full-on stunners. What color? Well, he hates to be basic, but Fleeman said a warm white or pale, pale gray. Nothing basic about that at all. It’s a winner all around.

If you’ve ever painted brick (I have), nailing the right white can be tricky, but I can tell you one that worked – White Duck from Sherwin Williams. You never really want to go to the trouble of painting a swatch – seems tedious and unnecessary – but as someone who accidentally painted a living room lavender, grab those paint swatches and do your thing.

Fleeman said they received multiple offers, and of course they did. He had 2702 W. 12th Street listed at $350,000.
