The Fort Worth Modern Built by Skateboards: Legendary Nash Estate Comes to Market

I don’t think I’ve had the honor to be scooped by Barron’s before, but the Nash Estate, AKA 2111 Hidden Creek Court, is too sensational to escape attention.

We had wanted to write up this exciting listing last week and held our weekly Fort Worth Friday dispatch open till the last possible moment, but this property didn’t go live on MLS till Saturday, hence Barron’s scoop.

As a story, this property has everything going for it — a legendary owner, a happy partnership between architect and landscape designer, a beautiful 1.1-acre site on a cul-de-sac lot, and a Westover location.

The House Built by Skateboards

This Fort Worth modern was built in 1976 for Charles E. Nash, founder of the largest skateboard and water ski manufacturer in the world, Nash Skateboard. This modern showpiece has never before been on the market. Nash died in 2015 at the age of 82.

The sweeping 6,132-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-and-one-half-bath construction is the felicitous collaboration of landscape designer Albert Spence and architect Frank J. Talley, whose work we’ve seen on these pages before. Both have worked to achieve a marriage between site and structure. Windows, including clerestory windows, create light-filled sun traps with views of the abundant, old-growth trees and the stunning saltwater pool.

The dining room is a case in point with floor-to-ceiling windows framing gorgeous views. The room has a low-key vintage glamour with a mirrored ceiling and what appears to be a very desirable Barovier and Toso chandelier.

With multiple living areas and two wet bars, the house was clearly designed with entertaining as a priority.

The kitchen is cheerful, perhaps in need of the odd update, but it has an existing island plumbed for a second sink and a breakfast nook at the end with what appears to be a second Barovier and Tosso chandelier.

The primary suite is multi-level with a sitting area with a second fireplace and his-and-hers baths. The bath has a vintage sunken tub with views of a courtyard and skylights to pull in even more light.

Downstairs, things really get funky.

The pop palette resembles Superman’s shirt. I’ll confess I couldn’t live with this but that doesn’t mean that I don’t want this bold time capsule to continue to exist. I sincerely hope this unique property finds a buyer who will preserve it. The undulating organic sofa would be super chic in a loft apartment and likely has a pedigree that the staff of Scott + Cooner could readily identify. Bedroom and bath on this level don’t shrink from the bravura brashness of the party room.

I couldn’t decide on one photograph of the gorgeous pool and hardscape in the back, so I chose two. The listing has several. Based on my recent experiences bidding pools, you would have difficulty bringing in a pool of this quality for $200,000.

Ida Duwe-Olsen with Compass Real Estate has listed 2111 Hidden Creek Court at $2.95 million.
