A Texas Modern Architectural Masterpiece in the Heart of Bluffview

The moment you see a Texas modern home  you know  it’s something extraordinary.  This masterpiece was designed by Stocker, Hoesterey and Montenegro Architects and pays tribute to the regional style developed by David R. Williams and O’Neil Ford. The cool contemporary is located at 5011 Shadywood Lane in the heart of Bluffview. The emphasis on environment and the incorporation of natural materials are integral aspects of the Texas modern movement, and this house is a shining example of both.

A courtyard at the entrance to the home ensures privacy without blocking light.

The hallmarks of the modern Texas style are open floor plans, walls of windows to reflect the environment, and lumber used in a decorative manner, all of which can be seen immediately upon entering this 9,098-square-foot masterpiece.

The stunning ceiling in the great room features Trestlewood, a reclaimed wood from Utah’s Great Salt Lake’s Lucin Cutoff Railroad Trestle. The Lucin Cutoff was a 102-mile-long railroad line constructed from Douglas fir and redwood. The wood is unique in that its characteristics are deeply influenced by the water. The flooring is reclaimed oak from BABA Antique Wooden Floors in North Carolina and provides the perfect warm tone to contrast with the sleek white walls.

The kitchen features an expansive waterfall island and concrete countertops. It has every professional feature you’d expect including a Wolf gas cooktop, double ovens, and a steam oven. It’s open to the den and overlooks the gorgeous backyard.

Steps away from the den is another feature found in Texas modern design, the outdoor covered porch. This one is magnificent with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors creating a complete fusion of indoor and outdoor space.

The window walls continue in the master suite which overlooks the backyard. The incredible master bathroom affords the same great light flow, with windows frosted just enough to ensure privacy. The master closet is one of the best we’ve seen.

The first level of the five-bedroom, five-full-and-three-half-bath home includes an enormous guest suite, home office, and laundry room. Secondary bedrooms with private bathrooms are upstairs along with a large game room and study area.

An important aspect of Texas modern architecture is not only blurring the lines between inside and outside but ensuring the exterior spaces extend and enhance livable space. Fortunately, with 1.7 acres to work with, the architects were able to create a park-like setting that encompasses an outside kitchen and dining area, two fire pits, a pool, pergola and, wait for it … a sports court. Of course there is a two-story pool house with a full bath, laundry, and a gym upstairs.

Listed by Lindy Mahoney with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International for $11.995 million, this is truly a one-of-a-kind Texas modern masterpiece.
