Tee Up to the Most Classic English Country Cottage in Preston Hollow: Yep, Trevino’s

GetMedia-1-3-1024x768Class, taste and style. That’s the only way to accurately describe this home. So often in Dallas real estate, you’ll find a great deal of money poured into a house does not result in coming close to any of those descriptive words. This classic English country cottage in Preston Hollow’s Sunnybrook estates fits perfectly into all of those categories. In fact the 4.9 acre estate, with two putting greens, is a hole in one. Why are there two putting greens, you ask?

If you’ve won the U.S. Open twice, The British Open twice and the PGA Championship twice, well, having a couple of greens to practice on daily is a must. Have you sorted this out yet? It’s the home of golfing legend Lee Trevino and his wife Claudia, of course. This stunning property was listed back in October, 2014 and we wrote about it extensively then. The Trevino’s became empty nesters and determined they didn’t really need 10,000 square feet. They want to travel and be footloose and fancy-free so it’s back on the market at $10,995,000. That’s really quite a deal for a property of this size, in this pure gold location, that is truly move-in ready. It’s tailor made for a golfer or tennis player -there’s also a regulation tennis court on the property.

What I love most about this estate at 4906 Park Lane is that it has all the hallmarks of a classically elegant home. It’s completely and utterly tasteful. Mrs. Trevino grew up in Connecticut and wanted a casual atmosphere. She’s succeeded beautifully, and her relaxed classic style is evident throughout the house.GetMedia-13-1-1024x768

The original 1939 home was extensively renovated and expanded after the Trevinos purchased it in 1996. There are four large bedrooms, (the master is 18 x 26), five full bathrooms and two half-bathrooms. The master bedroom suite has his-and-hers bathrooms with the voluminous closet space you’d expect. There are two living areas, a conservatory, sun room, and an obviously necessary trophy room. The use of color in the home is subtle, enhancing the architecture without being a distraction. The dining room is the perfect Wedgwood blue and a significant nod to east coast historic home style.

The Provencal farm style kitchen is perfection with a gorgeous timber framed ceiling and the range tucked into a carved out stone niche. That farmhouse style continues into the breakfast room with more beamed ceilings and stone walls. And oh, those beams!

The exterior of the home is as exquisite as the interior. Stroll across the stone bridge, over a tributary of Bachman Creek, through lush landscaped acreage. There are two pergolas, a pool with a cabana and, of course, quarters for guests or staff. There’s also an original underground storm shelter which can come in handy in our crazy Texas weather or act as a supplemental cellar for a stash of your favorite vintages.

Penny Tower Cook, with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty, is the listing agent and we suggest you tee up an offer as the only hazard here is not getting to this game in time. As for the Trevinos, they have already bought another home just down the street and of course you can always see the golf wonder up at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia where he is working with Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player, collaborating on a first-of-its-kind championship golf course called Oakhurst. The Greenbrier is, of course, one of the foremost destination golf resorts and vacation home residential communities in the country. It is also home to the annual PGA Tour FedExCup event, The Greenbrier Classic. We would not be surprised if the Trevinos ended up with a place out there as well as the one they have here. Homes are like golf balls: you can never have too many!
