Skylar Champion has returned to where her career began. The East Dallas based Realtor is once again affiliated with the Dave Perry-Miller Lakewood office.

The move reunites her with VP of Business Initiatives Betsy Cameron, someone she has thoroughly enjoyed working with over the course of her career. Champion also believes that the marketing team at Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate, backed by parent companies Ebby Halliday and Berkshire Hathaway, will help elevate her business to the next level.

“We really pride ourselves on being a white-glove service agency.  Every agent says that, but that’s truly what our passion is,” she said. “I knew that I needed to go back home.”

Champion’s business is primarily focused in East Dallas, though her business in the Park Cities is growing. In January she started her own team, which she hopes to expand in the coming years.

In addition to her real estate presence, Champion is also very involved in the Lakewood community.  She serves as the president of the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA. The organization raised nearly $300,000 for students at Lakewood Elementary, Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School this year. She’s also helped sponsor the Lakewood home tours and is involved with the development of the Mount Auburn peace pantry. That program helps students in need of food and supplies.

“Giving back to the community is huge for me,” Champion said.

Before going into real estate, Champion taught kindergarten in Highland Park and Plano for seven years. She stayed home with her oldest child when her family was having a home built in Lakewood. During this time she realized that she truly loved the whole home buying process. At one point she even asked the agent she was working with if she could help run errands or do paperwork.  Instead, she was asked to join the team.

“My mom was a real estate agent growing up, so it’s always kind of been in my blood,” she said. “I’d just never thought about doing it myself.  I loved teaching.”

Now she can’t imagine being in any other profession.  She says her experience as a teacher has served her well, particularly the lessons she learned about being patient. She enjoys all the people she gets to interact with in the office and out and about. Over the years, many friends have become clients, and clients have become friends.

As for the future, Champion would like to eventually grow her team to maybe four or five people which would allow it to branch out a little more.  More importantly, she wants to continue living and working in the community where her children are growing up. Family is the most important thing to her, and she hopes that the work she does will be a good example for her kids.

“I want them to be proud of me when they say, ‘My mom is Skylar Champion.’”
