Preston Royal Village Proactively Encourages Post-Tornado Shopping

Shopping this holiday season in Preston Hollow, at the venerable intersection of Preston Road and Royal Lane, has been quite different this year.

The entire southeast and southwest quadrants were flattened by the October 20 EF-3 tornado that hopscotched across this northern stretch of the city.

The northwest and northeast quadrants were affected, too, but the stores and restaurants at Preston Royal Village are almost all up and running — and they’re celebrating with “Holiday Sip & Shop” events.

The first was last week, Thursday, Dec. 12. The next is a repeat event tonight, from 4pm to 7pm.

The shopping centers, which occupy those two north corners of the intersection, saw a few extended closures as stores and shops recovered from the tornado and waited for power to be restored. However, those closures happened right as most tenants were gearing up for the holiday shopping season. The owner, Edens, sprang right into action to make holiday shopping even post-tornado (with jack-hammers going across the street) more fun.

“Last Thursday’s inaugural Sip & Shop event was so successful we are bringing it back for a second time tomorrow from 4 – 7 PM.” wrote Claire Wei, spokesperson for shopping center owner Edens. “This will be an excellent opportunity for you to join us and your fellow community members at Preston Royal Village for a night of shopping, live music, and holiday festivities.”

Here’s a sampling of the participating retailers (each will have drinks/light bites and store specials):

  • Sur La Table
  • Chicos
  • Snap Kitchen
  • Lily Rain
  • Roam Fine Goods
  • Royal China
  • Cousin’s Earl
  • European Wax Center
  • TJ’s Seafood & Grill
  • Shake Shack

I like the theme, Better Together, indicative of just how strong this community has been in pulling together after a major disaster.

Nearly every shop and restaurant in Preston Royal Village has reopened, with the exception of a few whose buildings are pending repairs. Toy Maven moved to temporary digs at Preston and Forest in the old Virginia Cook digs, and Cantina Laredo is working on roof repairs. Across the street, the Oreck vacuum cleaner store is working out of the Plano office. Stay tuned to Daltxrealestate.com for more updates as the new year begins.
