Meet 6475 Norway

I know, you hear about “gems” all the time when looking for homes.

This home is a gem with a jewel of a floorplan. It’s your home dreams answered. Many listings promise, but few deliver in the regal manner of this stunning Preston Hollow home at 6475 Norway Road on an oversized corner lot, listed for what I think is an incredible price: less than $2.5!

For one, buyers these days are all about two bedrooms on the first floor: the typical knock-out master er primary bedroom suite, and one for guests, aging parents, caretakers, or even a younger child. This home has ’em both, plus the usual wish list: study, formals, dining, and huge, functional kitchen. That in itself is an anomaly.

Thanks to sophisticated architectural planning, 6475 Norway squeezed it all in on a lush 165-foot-wide lot. That’s because this home was built in 2002 by none other than Daltxrealestate.com Approved builder Mark Molthan, one of his first private custom builds in Preston Hollow. He is the builder of record for the likes of Tony Romo, Hunter Mahan, Thomas Dundon, among others.

“I remember that house well,” Molthan said. “Had to be the first or second I built in Preston Hollow east of Preston.”

He says he gave his blood, sweat, and tears for 6475 Norway, and is not surprised to see how well the house has fared over time: it has just gotten better.

“I probably went overboard, being a new builder in the area. We were selling our skills,” Molthan said. “But I also remember the subs working extra hard to catch a glimpse of the lady of the house, a beautiful woman who had been a Bud Light gal.”

All Mark had to do was tell his team, ‘the homeowner’s wife is coming by to check on progress’, and subs showed up to work lickety-split just to catch a glimpse of her.

Enter the home through a generous formal foyer with a soaring ceiling and an S-curved staircase with wood risers. The flooring is gentle parquet transitioning to straight-laid wood planks. The den/library is on the left loaded with built-in shelves lining the walls, the formal dining on the right graced by a wrought-iron doored wine grotto, and a butler’s pantry to the kitchen. From the kitchen — island, high-end pristine appliances — is a vestibule to the garage with tons of storage and a massive laundry room that will easily double as a prep room for caterers.

Storage in this home, in fact, has the benefit of a most professional eye: the home is owned by Curtis Moving & Storage CEO Jamie Furrate. Jamie has moved and stored furnishings for the most discriminating homeowners Dallas, Fort Worth, Park Cities, and Westlake — big names with millions of dollars of fine collections. Curtis is who you call to move if you care about your furnishings and art! When it came to his own home, Jamie knew how to plan for the maximum amount of efficient storage space.

“In my business, storage is our lifeblood,” says Jamie. “Many people don’t realize how much we store for clients. I’ve been storing items for the finest families in town, and have seen the most creative storage solutions, implemented them all.”

That he why he made certain every room had ample closets, plenty of cabinets and drawers, and generous shelving.

For its size, just under 6,000 square feet, 6475 Norway is still a comfortable home: the great room features an oak ceiling with trim, which combined with the built-in media center and ceiling to floor limestone fireplace, creates a Hill Country-esque sense of warm relaxation. I love that the hardwoods run throughout the entire first floor, creating aesthetic flow, making any remodeling a snap.

“The home integrates a timeless architectural design with a floorplan that is current and well-conceived,” says listing agent Kyle Crews of Allie Beth Allman and Associates. “And I love the way the home sits on that big corner lot .”

Me, too. The first floor holds the aforementioned primary retreat, guest suite with bath, plus a formal living room that opens to the resort-like back yard. And that is not more listing mumbo-jumbo: there is a recently resurfaced free-flow pool, deck, raised spa, fountains, and a putting green.

I’m showing you this laundry room because it is spacious, opens to the exterior, and holds a huge sink!

Upstairs are two bedrooms with a large Jack-and-Jill bath, large enough actually to turn into two separate baths, plus a game room with a balcony and full wet bar.

The home is on a .44-acre corner, with a 123 ft front by a 158 depth lot. It has the advantage, which I love, of a side-entry, three-car garage with storage that keeps the front of the home pristine from garage doors and autos. Love that drive-up appeal.
