Peek Into a Marvelous Midcentury Modern Ranch This Tuesday With Preservation Dallas

Midcentury Modern Ranch

Never let it be said that Preservation Dallas does not jump in at the last minute and with both feet despite having a full plate of December events.

As soon as they saw last Thursday’s Midcentury Modern Ranch post, we started chatting about who needed to see it in person. Voila! Preservation Dallas board member Claudia Worme and Director of Programs Matt Weinstein whipped into warp-speed mode and quickly arranged for you to see this beauty in person.

This Tuesday, you can not only see it but also hear from Kenneth Altes, the man who is presently the owner of this pristine 1957 Midcentury Modern Ranch and grew up here from the age of 7.

Altes is not just the owner. He is also an architect, Realtor, and has worked in the building inspection field for years. So, you will be hearing about the amazing architecture and his fantastic memories of growing up here.

One of the most amazing stories is that the architect that designed it also worked on the space shuttle so it is truly a one-of-a-kind home.

Midcentury Modern Ranch

One of the significant features of this Midcentury Modern Ranch is the pine two-by-four ceiling covering the house and the garage. The house is remarkable for how intact it is, with only minor modifications. The cork floors were replaced in the 1980s as they began to wear out. The Tennessee red oak hardwoods that replaced them were an excellent choice as they maintain the warmth of the original cork but are much more durable.

You also don’t want to miss the explanation of the movable walls. Yes, movable walls. You can open up or close off certain bedrooms. And, of course, the home was laid out to offer the best views of the landscape from every angle.

This is a rare opportunity to hear a homeowner talk about their experiences and memories of an architecturally significant home. We are losing far too many of these historically and architecturally important homes, and this is one we certainly want to keep standing.

So come and join us to hear about and see this beauty at 3960 Cobblestone Dr. in person on Tuesday, December 12, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. And if you are in the market for a fabulous Midcentury Modern Ranch, Brent King of the Brent King group has it listed for a very reasonable $849,000.
