Lyle Turner with MALT Homes is one of the most passionate and involved builders I’ve ever met. His recent Texas Contemporary is imbued with his standards of cutting-edge enlightened design, luxurious easy living, and good old common sense.
The façade of this Texas Contemporary is constructed like a piece of music with a variation of textures that harmonize but hold their own in the orchestra of the build. From the standing-seam metal roof at entry to seamless color blend between stucco, stone, and Ipe wood, it’s a beautifully tuned home.

“I only build one or two homes a year, and I build them as if I’m going to move in,” Turner said. “There are must-have’s today, and they include a large lot, an elevator to the attic space, a downstairs guest suite, a big principal suite, a three-car garage and the ability to easily construct a pool. Not everyone wants a pool, but when they do, you need to have everything in place to make that installation easy. We ensure all the electrical and water are routed to not interfere with a pool installation.”
That’s what I mean about common sense.
Turner not only catches the trends before most, he understands how to utilize them in a practical manner.

When Turner designed this 6,790-square-foot Texas Contemporary on the spacious 70- by 170-foot lot, he was already so far ahead of the curve that he may have surprised even himself.
It was just before our world got turned upside down, but because of his forward-thinking style, he built what everyone now wants. I think that’s what happens when you see yourself living in your own construction. There is an innate ability to forecast what works before you know you even need it. And that starts with the home’s backbone, something so many builders overlook or never flesh out completely, because, it’s a strategic investment.
“We do the latest and greatest backbone in a home that will give a buyer ultimate flexibility in the smart home area,” Turner said. “For instance, we once had a buyer that wanted four TVs along one wall. No problem. We create the backbone so people can have alternatives and flexibility.”

Flexibility is, as we have all recently learned, instrumental in a home today.
We’ve had to adapt to working at home, schooling at home, and entertaining ourselves at home. So, our homes had better perform. And performance is also at the top of Turner’s list.
While the average home buyer may not think about smart breakers, great builders do and this Texas Contemporary has Lutron’s greatest breaker box. “You can pull the breakers out and put in smart breakers to control anything in the house,” Turner said. “It’s state-of-the-art and over and above what you find in most new construction.”

There is so much that sets a MALT Home apart from others. You’ll get it on a subconscious level, but you may not be able to put your finger on all the subtle design attributes, so I’ll give you a couple of examples.
I noticed the windows on the front of the house when I first talked to Turner and asked him what made him take them to the floor, knowing full well that was a more expensive option.
“It’s a design feature,” Turner said. “Running windows to the floor means you have to temper all the glass. They have to be treated, but it looks great!” Turner then custom-designed the front door to mimic the spacing of the windows. That’s the sort of detail that is second-nature to him.

The open concept chef’s culinary kitchen is another example.
“The Epsilon Blue Quartzite is from a supplier who does not buy the slabs as most purveyors do,” Turner said. “He buys the blocks overseas before they are cut and has them cut to his specifications. So, you will see quartzite packages in our house you won’t see anywhere else. No one wants their house to look like the house down the street!”
This exquisite kitchen has endless quartzite counters with a white deco ceramic tiled backsplash, as well as an immense waterfall island, breakfast bar, premier Wolf, Sub-Zero, and Bosch appliances, butler’s and walk-in pantries, plus a spacious breakfast area.

Turner designed this Texas Contemporary with family living in mind. There are five bedrooms and an oversized game room that could double as a sixth bedroom, seven bathrooms, and two powder baths.
This cutting edge home also has the much-loved open floor plan that harkens back to the logic and sensibility factors. Turner always builds a downstairs work area where kids can do homework and be supervised. “People want livability,” Turner said. “You can eat, play, and work all in the same room, and parents can see everything!”

“Lyle is an exquisite builder,” Allie Beth Allman & Associates’ Doris Jacobs said. “He pays so much attention to detail and builds a timeless home you will live in forever. He’s a perfectionist and it shows because every single one of his homes we’ve sold, the buyers are still living there or he’s built another custom home for them.”
Allie Beth Allman & Associates’ Doris Jacobs has MALT Homes’ 3117 Caruth Boulevard listed for $3.595 $3,495 million.
