Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas Wants to Know Why So Many Young People Are Moving to Dallas

An elected official who recently held the Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy visited Dallas City Hall on Wednesday.

Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas said he has just one question for Dallas city leaders.

“More than anything, I came down to see why so many young people from Kansas City move down here,” he said. “You are a buzz, [an] exciting city. We look forward to learning a lot from you and working with you all.”

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said he and Lucas were elected to lead their respective cities at the same time and have gotten to know each other over the years through the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas stopped by Dallas City Hall on Wednesday for a visit with Mayor Eric Johnson.

“I’m proud to introduce someone who is a great municipal leader in this country and probably the first mayor to step foot in this chamber who has hoisted a Lombardi Trophy, with a professional football team owner who lives in Dallas, for at least 30 years,” Johnson said.

Lucas said he’s visited Dallas numerous times but has not previously spoken before the Dallas City Council.

There’s No Place Like Mahomes

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was not with Lucas at City Hall on Wednesday, also has ties to the Dallas area. Mahomes’ father Pat was a pitcher for the Texas Rangers. Patrick played football and baseball at Texas Tech before heading to the Chiefs in the 2017 NFL Draft.

He also recently purchased a home in the Tarrant County suburb of Westlake.

Lucas recognized the Texas Tech fans and alumni who serve on the Dallas City Council and lauded the municipality as a leader in competitive sports.

“Thank you for your service,” he told the council. “We appreciate working with the people of Dallas. We are both World Cup soccer cities, so I look forward to making plans in 2026.”

Patrick Mahomes bought this home in the Tarrant County suburb of Westlake in 2020.

Mayor Johnson got to spend a little one-on-one time with Lucas and hopped on Twitter to thank his friend for the visit “as part of what I can only assume is his national mayoral Super Bowl victory road show.”

Lucas left Marilla Street with a challenge for his fellow mayor.

“I promised the mayor, at least in my mind, that I wouldn’t talk about football the whole time,” Lucas said. “I understand that he likes to make a good bet, so I look forward to a good Chiefs-Cowboys Super Bowl one of these days. Having Patrick Mahomes, I feel pretty good about our chances. God bless you. Let’s go, Red Raiders.”
