Some homes come up for sale only once in a generation. Sometimes in two or three generations. This iconic Italian Renaissance Villa is one of them. This property has been in the hands of the same family for 80 years. You’re in for something special.

I love nothing more than getting you Insider Dirt and bringing you a property that is not in MLS. How do I find them? You’ll never know because I’m the best secret-keeper in this city.

When you are looking for a luxury home in Dallas, you must know the right Realtors. Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s listing agent Penny Cook is one of those Realtors. When I spotted this Italian Renaissance villa at 4300 Armstrong Parkway, I immediately rang her up for a chat.

She told me the land was purchased in 1939 and the first home was completed in 1940. Eventually, the third generation of the family built the current house in 1997, but I can tell you, it looks like it was built last year. That’s primarily due to the perfect team coming together to create this stunning Italian Renaissance villa.

Let’s start with Texas-born architect Richard Drummond Davis. For newcomers to Dallas, Davis trained at Princeton, cut his architectural teeth with Michael Graves, and worked for the New York firm Hardy, Holzman, Pheiffer. Then he came home. Thank God. If ever an architect created dreams, it’s Davis.

Then we have John Sebastian of the Sebastian Construction Group. AIA Dallas just presented them the award for 2019 Contractor of the Year.

According to AIA Dallas:

“The Contractor Award is given to recognize outstanding qualities of construction work, the promotion of professionalism, and the development of excellent working relationships between the contractor, the architect and the community.”

The finishing touches on this Italian Renaissance villa were provided by multi-award winning interior designer, Sherry Hayslip. She managed to create a luxurious house where global movers and shakers feel at home, as well as small children. This is, first and foremost, a family home. Yes, there is a swing set in the backyard!

This Italian Renaissance villa has 11,702 square feet, four bedrooms, five bathrooms, two powder baths, a game room, a study, and an exercise room. It sits on 1.6 acres of landscaped, lush gardens, terraces, and patios, with a pool, a gorgeous outdoor dining area, and kitchen. That’s right, 1.6 acres in the middle of Highland Park. That’s almost impossible to find.

“This is an elegant home that has been well-loved for generations,” Cook said. “The materials and style are timeless. Everything is just exquisite.”

If you’d like to see this one-of-a-kind timeless classic at 4300 Armstrong Parkway, give Cook a call. If you want to know the price first, well remember the old adage, “If you have to ask …”
