Inwood Mortgage Home of the Week: Gorgeous Thoughtfully Remodeled Tudor in Kessler Park Has Class and Value

We are so excited about all of the cool home tours coming up, with the Preservation Dallas “Grounds For Preservation” Home Tour this weekend and the AIA Dallas Tour of Homes Nov. 1-2. (Don’t forget to enter our drawing for the AIA Dallas Tour of Homes, because we’re giving away three pairs of tickets to this amazing home tour. Don’t miss out and enter by our 9 a.m. Oct. 27 deadline.)

And maybe while you’re out in Oak Cliff checking out the Hayes House, you could take a look at 1210 N. Winnetka, a gorgeous redone Tudor that is also in Kessler Park. It’s our Home of the Week from Inwood Mortgage and it is a stunner that is priced under a million!

This 1930s Tudor was taken to the studs by Dallas architect Carlos Vega. Of course, you’d expect sensitivity to historic details from Vega — an architect with 30 years of experience and two terms on the Dallas Landmark Commission under his belt. Not all of the upgrades are eye candy, though. The home has new dual-zone HVAC, Nest thermostats, foam insulation, tankless water heaters, and double-pane windows. That means that even though you have five bedrooms and four full baths with over 3,500 square feet, you won’t have a ridiculous energy bill, which makes this home an excellent value at $860,000.

The original details in this sparkling white Tudor at 10210 N. Winnetka give this home the texture it needs to stand out. The stained glass windows in the living room, along with the hardwood floors and fireplace, have all been lovingly preserved and restored. The home has formal living and dining areas flanking the entrance of the home in the style that is typical of the period. The unique archways, though, add a little bit more architectural interest to the formal areas, as well as the coffered ceiling.

The kitchen, den, and staircase to the second floor are all in the back of the home, preserving the natural flow of this home while allowing for more room and more open spaces. The kitchen, which features a butler’s pantry for storage and serving, has beautiful marble counters and ample cabinet space. Chrome fixtures and hardware add to the vintage appeal, but the stainless steel appliances, including a professional-grade, six-burner gas range and built-in refrigerator, are fantastic functional updates. The counters are Carrera marble with a gorgeous cherry butcher block island that really accentuates the warmth of the hardwood floors. You’ll love the stainless steel apron sink, in the kitchen, as well as the wine refrigerator and ice maker in the butlers pantry. These features add a modern touch and an easy-to-love convenience to the kitchen area.

There’s a den just off the kitchen that would be a great sitting area and breakfast nook. The large, full-light patio doors are perfect for adding natural light to this area, and the built-in storage is perfect for a TV and entertainment center. This could be a lovely keeping room where you can open the doors on gorgeous days and let some fresh air in the house. Imagine how wonderful this would be for informal dinner parties, too!

The master suite is on the first floor, and is a spacious 22 x13, and generally what you’d expect from a home like this, but what will really make your head turn is the master bath, which features even more of the homes original hardwood floors, gorgeous marble counters and tile, plenty of built-in storage and cabinetry, as well as a rain shower and a free-standing soaking tub that, while it has modern curves at the base, mimics the shape of historic claw-foot tubs from the period.

Upstairs you’ll find luxurious details in the bedrooms and bathrooms that take advantage of as much space as possible despite the odd angles that come with a second-story renovation in a historic home. I do love that the architect added a quaint living space on the landing with some built-in storage. It would be a great homework area or reading nook for kids.

Outside this home truly shines, with a gorgeous deck with built-in seating and a beautiful stone patio. I could easily imagine a fire pit and marshmallows roasting this winter. If this looks like just the home for you, save some time and talk to the professionals at Inwood Mortgage. They know that no matter the size of the loan, no one wants their mortgage to have hiccups.
