Even with two small children, I am what you’d call a Clean Person. I run a tight ship. Clutter quakes in my presence.
Full disclosure: the one task I can’t bring myself to do on the regular is mopping. Judge away. It just seems pointless while the aforementioned kids still live here. Anyway.
As much as I loathe clutter, I detest odor even more. So I bring you my tried-and-true method of freshening up our family sofa, stopping stink in its tracks.
Step One: Suck it up, Buttercup
Dyson V7 Trigger Cord-Free Handheld Vacuum Cleaner
Price: $168.49 (regularly $199.99)

Step two leaves everything a bit… damp, so best to clean up any debris first. My Dyson handily puts an end to cat fur, goldfish crackers, and general fuzz. I am not always completely enamored of Dyson products but this one has yet to disappoint. Set it to ‘turbo’ and de-gunk your sofa in a flash. Get it here.
What buyers are saying: Dyson tends to be very polarizing. Love it or hate it. But I agree with Washwizard who says, “Fulfills our expectations of this product, lightweight, great for small cleanups.”
Step Two: Turn Up the Heat
BISSELL PowerFresh Steam Mop
Price: $89.99 (regularly $99.99)

I learned quickly with my firstborn that the only way to kill odor from say, spilled milk is steam. In my experience, upholstery steamers are cumbersome. But a steam mop is light and easy to run over both vertical and horizontal surfaces. Remove the mop pad, plug it in, and steam away. Let your sofa dry for a few hours before step three. Buy it here!
What buyers are saying: With over 11,000 ratings averaging 4.3 stars, this one hits solidly with buyers. General complaints include the water tank size (too small in some opinions). We need it a bit lighter for our purposes so I don’t share this objection.
Step Three: Give it Some Stink Insurance
Caldrea Linen and Room Spray, Lavender Cedar Leaf
Price: $12.97 (regularly $14.00)

If you live in a scent-free household, skip this. But I like to give the sofa a quick spritz of some natural scent like lavender or citrus. Think of it as stink insurance. You essential oil folks probably have your own concoctions but this is my go-to. Again, let it dry for a bit or your backside will come away a bit fragrant. Purchase it here.
What buyers are saying: Look, smell is totally subjective. People either love this or hate this. Buyer Seekinghim says, “I use this to freshen our bed sheets, the microfiber furniture, throw pillows, and throw blankets. The light scent is not overpowering.” But you do you.
