Gorgeous Contemporary With Midcentury Touches in Sought-After East Dallas Neighborhood

This home is a wonderful change of pace, and in a fantastic White Rock-area neighborhood, too. Located in the highly sought-after White Rock North neighborhood in East Dallas, this home is a 1961 contemporary with several Midcentury touches.

It’s not straight-up midcentury modern, but it’s not 100 percent soft contemporary, either. It’s a gorgeous blend of styles that results in beautiful open spaces, banks of undressed windows, a sunken living area, and a galley kitchen that has some key updates. It has taken a lesson in curb appeal from the pros (look at that cute aqua front door!), and has tons of warm, welcoming spaces.

This is a beautiful home that will definitely accommodated a broad range of decor styles, from modern and contemporary furnishings to the classic Eames chair. The white walls are perfect for tailoring your style with punches of accent colors and shapes. There are four bedrooms, two full baths, and more than 2,600 square feet in this Brady Moore listing at 9221 Shoreview, which is brand-spanking-new to the market for $599,000.

This is the perfect home for an art lover, thanks to the clean white walls, gorgeous oversized windows, track and recessed lighting throughout. Another lovely feature is the dramatic, vaulted ceiling that emphasizes the change in floor height between the living and dining areas.  The pendant lights over the dining table with their epic long wires, and the geometric white wallpaper in the living area add so much drama. Of course, many people buy in this area for the schools, which fall into Richardson ISD, too, and this home, thanks to its four bedrooms — three downstairs and a fourth bedroom/office upstairs — makes it great for families.

Now, a lot has been done to this home — see the master bath for evidence — while some areas remain a timewarp — check out the hall bath vanity! But the galley kitchen is where you’ll see the owners have done some upgrades without changing the layout of the home, leaving the galley-style kitchen intact with new cabinet faces, new counters, and recent appliances.

The best parts of this home, in my opinion, are the living spaces. There are two, with the rear family room overlooking the well-manicured backyard. There is a cool almost kiva-style fireplaces, built with bricks and painted a dove gray. I would have loved to see this fireplace before it was painted, though, as 1960s-era brickwork can be either beautiful or breathtakingly hideous. I do love the reclaimed wood wall, which plays up the steep angle of the ceiling. Of course, there’s that Eames chair, a great place to cop a squat and listen to the Hi-Fi with your Tom Collins.

The master suite has been updated, and the bedroom area is a decent size at 14×11. The bedroom area has some cool design touches, including the burn-out sheer window screens over the sliding patio doors to the backyard, and the recessed light bar over the bed that renders bedside lamps obsolete for nighttime reading. It’s the master bath, though, that will really put you over the edge. It is modern and open, with designer glass and tile. Of course, as you’d expect, I am bummed that there isn’t a bathtub in this master bath, but it’s a forgivable transgression.

The backyard is definitely family friendly, and carries that same clean and modern vibe with several cool punches of color. There are two outdoor spaces in this home — a covered front courtyard and a rear porch — and you will definitely make use of both.
