This Earth Day, try thinking outside the cardboard box for moving supplies.
That’s what John and Mollie Hancock, a former middle school teacher and Ebby Halliday real estate agent respectively, did when they founded Elephant Trunk Moving Supplies in 2015 from their Plano home. Together with their daughter Chloe Hancock, who is also an agent with Ebby Halliday Realtors, the family-owned business is looking to make moving more ecological, economical, and easier.
The concept really is brilliant. Elephant Trunk Moving Supplies rents out reusable plastic moving boxes for two weeks at a time. Simply go to their website to order a one-, two-, up to a five-bedroom package of reusable plastic boxes. Usually, John Hancock himself will deliver the stacks of nested boxes and labels to your door within most cities in the Metroplex. They also rent out all the other stuff you’d need for moving like dollies, hand trucks, blankets, and packing paper.
BTW, the eco-friendly packing paper is, as the kids would say, satisfying to the touch. It’s a roll of honeycomb design paper that cushions like bubble wrap and interlocks so no tape is needed. It’s lined with a layer of white tissue paper to prevent any surface abrasion. (P.S. I know cat owners say their felines love the stuff.)

The durable moving boxes come in two sizes and close shut with a pair of interlocking flaps. No plastic lids to lose and no packing tape needed, though Elephant Trunk Moving Supplies will provide zip ties if you’d like. The moving boxes lock together when stacked, which makes dollying them out the door easy.
These plastic moving boxes can accommodate more than you think, say many of their satisfied customers. One customer used 200 plastic boxes for a 3,600-square-foot house. And because the boxes are uniform in two sizes and stack easily, the satisfied customer moved themselves.
Other customers say in their five-star reviews that the boxes paid for themselves because professional movers could move boxes and stack the truck faster — cutting an eight-hour job down to a six-hour one. Plus, customers have two weeks to pack and unpack the plastic moving boxes. If they need more time, Elephant Trunk will extend the rental for a reasonable fee.

Truth be told, reading the reviews for Elephant Trunk Moving Supplies is a refreshing experience. So many customers rave about the Hancock family’s customer service and say they’ll never use cardboard boxes again.
Mollie confesses one of her favorite reviews said the customer actually looked forward to packing and using a reusable alternative to cardboard boxes made her “feel like a kinder human.” “I love that so much,” Mollie says.
And let me say this. As someone who can be a little OCD about the parity of objects, these reusable plastic boxes are heavenly. Just look at that beauty.
