Collin County is the epicenter of new construction in North Texas. New developments are popping up all over the county. Now, the county has a place to accommodate those who want to make construction a career.

Collin College recently announced it will offer a bachelor’s degree in construction management this fall. It’s the third baccalaureate degree program at the school, joining nursing and cybersecurity.

It makes perfect sense. We all need health-service workers, cybersecurity specialists, and skilled builders.

“Graduates of this program will have the knowledge and skills to compete at a very high level for leading jobs in commercial and residential construction,” Craig Johnson, director of Architecture and Construction programs at Collin College, said in a release.

The program will be taught at the college’s Technical Campus in Allen and expand on the established Associate of Applied Science in Construction Management degree. Students can get marketable skills in
Management principles

  • Scheduling, planning, and cost estimating for construction projects
  • Behavior of building structures/components
  • Principles of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Project safety
  • Risk management.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges approved the degree earlier this month. Collin College is accepting applications for the program until Aug. 1.
