Friday Four Hundred: The Absolute Perfect Tudor is on Monticello. See For Yourself!

At one time I used to dislike Tudors. (Calm down! This is a story of redemption!!!)

After hearing from several Realtors and seeing many charming listings, I am a Tudor convert. I now see why everyone loves these homes so much. They are cozy, ripe with history and character, and full of fantastic details. Dallas is lucky, I suppose, that we have so many homes in this architectural style. We have neighborhoods full of them, just bursting with Tudors, and many are absolutely heartbreaking in their beauty.

However, today, I will introduce to you the perfect Tudor.

Yes, I know that “perfect” is relative. So let me say that there is not one thing I don’t love about this home. That’s what makes it perfect to me.

Without further adieu, I introduce to you “Ten Tulips,” so named for the ornate stained glass windows throughout the home. Yes, the home at 5743 Monticello even has a name! With three bedrooms, two baths, and 1,842 square feet, this 1925 Tudor in Greenville Crest is just sweep-you-off-your-feet dreamy. The sellers obviously love this home, as it has been cared for and carefully renovated. It features gorgeous hardwood floors, mouldings galore, glass doorknobs, and arched doorways — even the most gorgeous arched French doors you’ve ever seen in a house this size! Only on the market for four days so far, it’s listed by Dallas City Center Realtor Paul Carper for $465,000. Warning: You are about to have to fight for air because I am going to practically waterboard you with photos of this home.

There are built-ins in the living room surrounding the fireplace — a wonderful spot to showcase your collection of books, because you know that if you buy a home like this, you buy it because it is plagued with comfortable reading spots where you can whittle away hours upon hours of your life. The cheery yellow paint keeps things bright and airy without overshadowing the gorgeous stained glass. A home like this is perfect for antique collectors, as it will show off just about any grouping of furniture like they were meant to be together. Kismet.

Waltz through the arched French doors to the dining room, and you’ll appreciate the understated paint and the gorgeous moulding. The sheer curtains allow the space to feel much larger, but this dining room is perfect for intimate gatherings and family holidays. There are memories to be made here, for sure.

The kitchen is just perfect for the home cook who loves the little luxuries. You’ll appreciate the farm-style apron sink and the bright white cabinetry with the lovely little chalkboard panel on the pantry door. There are granite counters, a stone backsplash, and lovely mustard yellow paint that will get your creative juices flowing while you jullienne your veggies. This kitchen is well-appointed, too, with a built-in Subzero refrigerator that has a window — a genius way to tell what’s in the fridge without constantly opening the door and letting the air out! Very clever! Next to it you’ll also find a wine chiller that will come in handy during your first party.

The master bedroom is a very cozy 13 x 14, but you won’t really mind it being a bit tight. Why? Because you’ve got so many other lovely spots to hang out in this home. The sellers are very clever about pointing this out — the third bedroom has been staged as a sunroom, a lovely nook for relaxing in. So really, the bedroom isn’t a retreat, but the whole house is! Both baths have been updated to include lovely details that make it feel much more like a 1920s-era home. Pedestal sinks and hexagonal tile floors really add character and flair.

It’s outdoors where this home just seals the deal. A wrap-around deck offers plenty of room for parties to enjoy the setting, and a beautiful brick workshop has its own loggia and fireplace. A tidy lawn is great for playing a few games, too. If you aren’t in love with this place by now, then schedule an appointment to see it soon, because it’s going to go fast!
