We Eat Right: Preston Center, Preston Royal Getting Plethora of Healthy Restaurants

Snap-Kitchen

Once upon a time there was a quaint optical shop next door to the Write Selection  called Al Hale. Al, an optician, knew how to fit glasses and wore a giant cowboy hat on his way home every night. His former space is now tending to the tummy, after being extensively renovated. A new, healthy-food focused restaurant called Snap Kitchen opened in that same spot Monday. I am talking about the northeast corner of Preston Royal Village. Snap Kitchen will have other locations, too, including Uptown at McKinney Avenue and Snider Plaza, and Addison and Fitzhugh locations are scheduled to open soon. This is an Austin-based concept that offers healthy meals to-go, plus yummy snacks and cold-pressed juices. Check out the breakfast bowl, made from maple-apple bison sausage, scrambled eggs and spinach! I hear the calories counting is all done for you.

Just a few months ago TJ’s Seafood Market opened across the parking lot in the northern strip of Preston Royal Village — the lobster rolls are to-die for, and the restaurant always seems to be bursting at the seams..

Then there is True Food Kitchen from Fox Restaurant Concepts, which opened last November on the first floor of  University Park Library’s building at 8383 Preston Center, Suite 200, near Northwest Highway.

This is True Food Kitchen’s first location in Texas, with six other ones in different states. The menu is based on the recipes and teachings of Andrew Weil – very healthy: vegan, vegetarian, organic and gluten-free in starters, salads, pizzas, entrees, and fresh-squeezed juices, along with Mediterranean diet type dishes.

No excuse now for not eating healthy in Preston Hollow! Well, except for the fact that Sprinkles is across the parking lot from True Foods…
