Dreamy Midway Hollow Cottage Remodel Evokes a Fairy Tale

I will never forget the time I first looked at homes in this part of town, Midway Hollow, on Van Ness Lane, to be exact.

A Realtor told me that this was the kind of neighborhood where you come outside and see the elves dancing with little stars all around. This was in 1980 and I was in my early 20s, new to Dallas, and house hunting.

I had to agree with her: Midway Hollow was idyllic then, as it is now.

To put a more modern spin on it, the neighborhood around 3719 Van Ness is almost a replica of Ponyland, or maybe Paradise Estate. Any minute I expect to see Twilight Sparkle, Spike, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Applejack, and Fluttershy frolicking in the green grass.

This wonderful neighborhood has cradled this brick home since 1952, elves, ponies, and people.

This adorable renovated ranch is sound — 1952 is when it was solidly constructed with hardwood oak floors, pier-and-beam foundation, three bedrooms, one bath, and a new detached, two-car garage. It’s the fourth home on the street west of Marsh Lane, an area that has already crossed the gentrification threshold.

The curb appeal is immediate, thanks in part to the mature landscaping.

Inside, original hardwood floors flow throughout the 1,222 square feet of the open floor plan. The front door walks right into the living/dining combo area, with the fully renovated kitchen in full view. The kitchen has beautiful granite counter tops, extra wide kitchen sink, stainless steel appliances, and an island expanding into a large living area that creates a secondary eating spot.

The bathroom has been updated with beautiful custom tile (even on the walls!), tub, double designer sinks, and flawless cabinetry. The master is especially spacious, and room could be found to add a secondary bath near the other two bedrooms.

There is a secure, electric iron gate over the driveway, leading to a newer two-car garage, storage, and ample parking. A tall privacy fence encloses the entire yard, which features a pergola-covered patio and plenty of green space for a swing set or even a small pool.

Asking price for 3719 Van Ness is $399,000, listed with Mohammed Jaber at Compass. The home just hit the market Feb. 7, and we don’t expect it to last much longer … unless the elves or the ponies take over. The cuteness overwhelms!
