Jake-Hattie-Decker

This is a real estate blog, and as such we cover not just the homes we love and live in, but the people who we love in them. Jacob Decker is one of those people. He is my son-in law, he helped people save or sell their homes through his bankruptcy practice. Jake is gone, and my heart is broken forever. Though we grieve, our home is filled with love, food, and flowers from family, friends, even strangers. In my deepest grief I see this is why we love and cherish our homes so much. Not only are they our havens, but they are our comfort when we cry, where we go when we are in pain, and need to rest and replenish. Memories are made here, happy and not so.  I believe my dearest Jake is finally now at home, and at peace.

Jacob Alan Decker (“Jake”) passed March 1, 2015 in Dallas. Jake was born March 9, 1981 in Independence, Kansas, son of Larry Clay and Lindy Lou Decker. The proud Texan lived across his beloved state in Houston, Midland, and after high school years in Alaska, made his final home in Dallas. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 2004. Jacob was active in baseball, football and golf. He played in the Houston Shell Open and held a PGA card. He obtained his JD from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 2007. In Dallas, Jake focused on the practice of bankruptcy at Allmand Law Firm, where he was a junior partner and helped thousands of clients. He was also active and supportive with his wife in Dallas philanthropy including the SPCA of Texas, Paws Cause, Dallas Pets Alive, and Cattle Barons Ball. Jake loved animals dearly and always opened his home to animals in need.

Jake is survived by a circle of loving family: his beloved wife, Cassie Evans Decker of Dallas; his 3 month old daughter, Hattie Pearl Decker; his brother Matt Decker of Oklahoma City, OK; his parents Larry and Lindy Decker of Edmond, OK; his cousin Jeremy Decker of Waco, TX; his in-laws Candace and Walter Evans of Dallas and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tres and Erika Evans of Redwood City, CA and their daughter, Palmer Barrett Evans.; his maternal grandparents James Terrell Brumble, Jr. and Doris Mae Bonds Brumble of Tyler, TX and his paternal grandparents Ira Jackie Decker and Margie Lee Derrick Decker of Hico, TX.

Jake’s family celebrates his beautiful, loving life on Thursday, March 5, at 4:00 p.m. at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road. He will be interred in the family cemetery in Duffau, Texas near Hico, Texas, where he loved to hunt, fish, and enjoy the land.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate Memorial Contributions to a special fund which has been established for his beloved infant daughter, Hattie Pearl Decker: send to Morgan Stanley (Attention: Tres Evans) at 2775 Sand Hill Road, Suite 120, Menlo Park CA 94025.

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart,
and my portion for ever.” -Psalm 73:26
