Classic East Dallas Midcentury Modern in Lake Highlands Gets Facelift

With East Dallas midcentury modern homes being as hot as they are, it feels like an exercise in futility to fall in love with one. Just as soon as we see one of these highly coveted homes, it’s snapped up by a similarly eager buyer before we can say “earnest money.”

Lucky for us, we happened on this week’s High Caliber Home of the Week presented by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans before any other would-be buyer hungry for clean lines and natural light. It’s a fabulous Lake Highlands North midcentury modern listed by David Collier and Jennifer Rice of David Griffin & Company Realtors.

It has all the hallmarks of coveted East Dallas midcentury modern homes that we ogle, as well as some smart upgrades and some details left untouched!

This lovely East Dallas midcentury modern has some lovely architectural details, including an original shadow-brick brise soliel that adds some privacy to the floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to the front porch at 10306 Church Road.

As you can see from the front porch, some key updates have been made on this four-bedroom, two-bath home in the Lake Highlands North subdivision. While it was built in 1962, this home has tons of windows, a double-sided fireplace, and a gorgeous courtyard patio indicative of the midcentury modern era.

“The midcentury floor plan, which is open but with definition, is exactly what buyers are looking for today,” Collier said.  “The updates reflect a minimalist, sophisticated sensibility, all the while providing all the comforts for today’s way of living.”

The 1,838-square-foot home has two living areas, a formal dining room, remodeled kitchen, master suite, and a detached two-car garage on a lot inside Richardson ISD’s Wallace Elementary School attendance zone. Collier and Rice are marketing this special property for $479,900.

The windows let in so much light in this home, and we love the painted brick planter and double-sided fireplace. Though the polished concrete floors throughout reflect so much light, the warmth from the paneled wall and drop ceiling accent are just perfect. There are tons of lighting upgrades, with atomic-era shapes in eye-catching white and brass.

The kitchen is practically brand new, with glazed tile backsplash, European-style cabinetry, Kryon countertops, and stainless steel appliances. The white lacquer faucet is brilliant, and the custom vent hood over the gas range is a great shape for the space. The kitchen and dining area benefit from the wall of windows looking out to the courtyard-style patio and backyard.

The master bath has trendy brushed brass hardware, a concrete shower basin and bench, as well as gorgeous concrete tile floors.

The second bath has a compact vessel tub, which is excellent for families with small children, as well as a floating vanity and concrete tile floors.

Both bathrooms were gutted and completely reimagined for today’s lifestyles, Collier and Rice noted. The master suite features an oversized shower with stunning glazed tile and concrete accents with trendy brushed brass hardware. The second bathroom has a compact freestanding tub, which is a wonderful thing to see. So many East Dallas midcentury modern homes have had showers installed to replace the existing tub/shower combo, which is less than ideal for families with small children (and pets!). What a great and stylish compromise!
