Why Wylie?Too Cool For School

Sheppard

[Editor’s note: Merry Christmas! This week, we’re taking time off to focus on our loved ones, so we are sharing some of our favorite stories from this year. Keep an eye out for our top features from the archives as we rest and get ready for a brilliant 2020! Cheers, from Candy and the entire staff at Daltxrealestate.com!]

Weekend One Hundreds are hard to come by – and in fact, we’re changing this feature in 2020 – but this cute home on Sheppard Lane has several features that make it cozy and comfortable, and a great place to call home. (Originally published Oct. 19, 2019).

You won’t find a better price for a three-bedroom home in a city with a great family-friendly atmosphere, good schools, and a quaint downtown.

The custom home at 1401 Sheppard Lane, Wylie, was built in 1986, and offers two bathrooms, a two-car garage and a 7,481-square-foot lot.

There’s simply no excuse for staying inside as the evenings are getting cooler around North Texas.

The family can enjoy dinner outside on the patio or chase after a puppy in the big backyard. The location, in Wyndham Estates, is close to several parks, Lavon Lake, and Lake Ray Hubbard.

The open floor plan features a brick fireplace, tile floors and large windows that bring in lots of natural light, says real estate consultant Russell Rhodes of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.

The kitchen has ample counter space, a refrigerator that comes with the house, and a walk-in pantry.

And all the home comes with a modest price tag of $197,000.

Why Wylie?

True crime junkies will know that Wylie is home to the infamous alleged ax-murdering housewife Candace Montgomery, who was acquitted of killing her friend, school teacher Betty Gore in the early 1980s.

Those who weren’t around for that sensational trial, however, know Wylie to be a quiet suburb with a thriving downtown, a big cat sanctuary (lions, tigers, and cougars, oh my!), and a rich history in cotton farming.

The proximity to those two lakes also makes it a great area for going boating with the family on weekends or enjoying an outdoor dinner at one of the marina restaurants.

Too Cool For School

The home on Sheppard Lane is zoned for P.M. Akin Elementary School, Davis Intermediate School, Grady Burnett Junior High, and Wylie East High School. Wylie Preparatory Academy with grades pre-K through high school and a state champion six-man football team, is just a few miles away.

The public school district scored an A grade across the board in txschools.gov ratings.

Akin Elementary (grades K through four) scored a B overall with an A in student achievement, and C’s in school progress and closing the gaps.

Davis Intermediate (fifth and sixth grades) earned an A overall, an A in student achievement, and B’s in school progress and closing the gaps.

Burnett Junior High picked up A’s across the board.

Wylie East, one of two local public high schools, also picked up A’s and B’s.

Real estate consultant Russell Rhodes of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices is listing 1401 Sheppard Lane, Wylie, for $197,900.
