Eighty years. That’s a long time for sure. Eighty years ago, the United States was entrenched in World War II, gas rations were limited to three gallons per week, Duck Tape was developed, and we first heard Bing Crosby sing “White Christmas” in the highly-underrated movie “Holiday Inn.”

Ridglea Then

Eighty years ago in Fort Worth, Ridglea North was mostly undeveloped land along Camp Bowie Blvd. west of Downtown Fort Worth. The mature and beautiful trees of Ridglea North were mere saplings.

Prominent long-time Fort Worth men’s clothier John L. Ashe designed and built this home inspired by New Orleans architecture, located on the corner of Westridge and Locke avenues.

Ridglea Today

Today the home benefits greatly from 80 years. The neighborhood is fully developed with beautiful homes featuring a mix of architectural styles and sizes. Huge trees canopy over homes and streets. Local parks and areas for recreation are often teeming with future soccer stars or frisbee champions. Not only is Ridglea North’s proximity to other areas of interest in Fort Worth magnificent, the neighborhood, too, is magnificent.

The 4,266-square-foot home features four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a formal dining area, secondary living area, and upstairs recreation room. Plus there’s a super-large family room with an entire wall of glass windows and doors for spectacular views of the backyard.

Plenty of food can be cooked for gatherings and parties

The home is very inviting and a perfect dwelling to host large parties (does anyone do that anymore?) and guests. If there’s not enough space in the interior of the home, the backyard feels like a secret garden with mature trees of different shapes, sizes and varieties.

Of course everyone wants to see what the primary bathroom and closet look like in Tarrant County Tuesday homes, and even more so for a home custom built by a Ft. worth retail legend.

In 1920, John L. Ashe began selling shoes in Fort Worth. He grew his business to sell men’s hats and then eventually a full-scale men’s clothing store. He passed in 1974. There is no doubt that he would be overwhelmed with his vision that he built at 3001 Westridge Avenue eighty years ago. Now is your opportunity to be a part of Fort Worth history as well as its future.

3001 Westridge Avenue is listed by none other than Chris Miller of The Pursuit Group with Williams Trew Real Estate. Chris is also an award-winning master grower of habanero peppers…which some find spicy. The home is listed for $1.175 million.
