Sakina Claytor doesn’t necessarily practice Feng Sui, but she does believe every home has its own unique energy.

“I love to give old houses that’ve been neglected a new life,” says Claytor, who completed eight home remodels last year. “I’m not about building a big monstrous house in an old home’s place. Instead, this is about keeping the energy of the house.”

This week’s High Caliber Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans, is a beautiful one-story ranch that Claytor took down to the studs and built back up to become this beautiful incarnation of transitional living.

The three-bedroom, two-bath home features split bedrooms, dual two-car air conditioned garages, and a back house that has a full shower and bath and space for an office.

The kitchen features stainless steel GE appliances, a walk-in pantry, and a textured granite waterfall island with plenty of storage space for bulky appliances and cookware.

There in the kitchen, Claytor eliminated the upper cabinets so that everything’s in easy reach. “Plus, it shows off marble mosaic backsplash.”

I especially love the stunning tile work in this home. In one bath, you’d swear the walls were made of corrugated steel, but it’s actually European imported porcelain tile. And what looks like a sliver of a privacy glass window is actually an LED-lit soapbox.

On the other side of the home where the owners retreat is located, huge 12×48-inch porcelain tiles create a simple relief pattern on the walls. The kind of pattern that you can just picture yourself soaking in the tub, tracing the lines with your fingers.

The retreat includes a sitting area, custom closet, and two sets of double French doors leading to the newly-landscaped backyard.

Additional updates include a new roof, plumbing, electrical, interior and exterior paint, plus a new tankless water heater and less than two-year-old AC unit.

“I believe homes have souls, and when I finished this home,” Claytor says, “I truly believe the house was smiling and saying thank you.”
