High Caliber Home? I Call It High Caliber Color of the Week

I’ve got a serious case of color envy for this week’s High Caliber Home of the Week, sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans.

The 3,255-square-foot traditional has four bedrooms and three and a half baths. It was built in 1969 in the Underwood Estates neighborhood, perfectly nestled in the heart of the private school corridor. That means he big four —Jesuit, St. Mark’s, Hockaday, and Ursuline — are all 5-10 minutes away.

Inside, that’s where our color story begins. The color blue has so many permutations and possibilities. Royal blue, navy blue, baby blue, even pool blue like the immaculate pool in this home’s backyard. But nailing a perfect slate blue paint is a feat I’ve yet to achieve. The home here at 3759 Shady Hill Lane is my muse.

Peaceful, tranquil, and contemporary. Those are the vibes this living area gives off with crisp plantation shutters and parquet wood floors.

Continuity. That’s another word to describe this home’s color palette. Just across from the den, the formal dining room sports a slate blue ceiling like a blue sky in your home.

Continuing into the kitchen, our slate blue reappears in the Trend Glass custom back splash. The spacious kitchen features stainless steel appliances and white granite countertops.

The living area features vaulted ceilings with cedar ceiling beams, a perfect contrast for the crisp, contemporary space. There’s a fireplace on one end and a wet bar on the other.

Back to color, blue paint can go too drab and bring a room (and your mood down). A blue can go too bold to the point it feels loud and sort of immature. This home’s slate blue is the perfect balance of vibrant and peaceful.

That goes for this color derivation in the primary bedroom — toned down and sophisticated. The other bedrooms sport bold colors, but these are kids rooms we’re talking about. They don’t have to tow the company line on slate blue.

Phillip Murrell with Compass RE Texas has listed 3759 Shady Hill Drive for $799,000.
