The Frisco City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission have delayed two separate votes on Universal’s proposed theme park in The Field’s development, according to news reports.

The city was scheduled to vote on the permits on Feb. 7, which was delayed until Feb. 21. The vote is now scheduled for March 7.

Frisco residents voiced their displeasure with the plan during the most recent meeting on Tuesday.

“We do not want this project,” said Phil Evitt, a resident of the neighboring Cobb Hill neighborhood. “This will decimate our neighborhood.”

According to reports, residents requested a citizen’s advisory committee to study potential traffic problems and also voiced support for a public park to encircle the theme park to keep it more secluded.

Universal and the city announced in January that Frisco will be home to a one-of-a-kind theme park, specifically designed for families and young children.

A release by the city says the park will feature themed lands, Universal’s brand, and characters in “ways that will wow even the youngest theme park goers.”

The park is proposed for a 97-acre plot of the Fields development along the Dallas North Tollway and Panther Creek Parkway. Universal has also proposed plans for an adjacent themed hotel and room for expansion. The park will be just one-fourth the size of Universal’s parks in Orlando and Los Angeles.
