Clean And Modern With An Easy LayoutKings Highway: Nostalgia in The Heart of The City

Kings Highway is, well, I think we’re all familiar with Kings Highway in Oak Cliff. It’s a tree-lined, slice-of-nostalgia of a street. It also sits inside a Historic Conservation District in Dallas, meaning the charm is here to stay. The porches, the waves from familiar faces, and the comfort of knowing your neighbors — it all comes with every home.

Compass Real Estate’s Albany Shaw said the neighbors were the ones who got together and made the case for the Kings Highway Conservation District. That’s how you know this is a tight-knit crew. They came together to protect the place they loved. Across the street, there are new construction multifamily homes, and they all have to follow the guidelines that were set in place back in the 1980s.

Clean And Modern With An Easy Layout

This Craftsman-style home with the robin’s egg blue exterior and golden doors is one of the best on the street. It’s magical, really, with a rambling low-maintenance yard filled with flowering (and non-flowering) Texas natives. Shaw said that magical comment is no joke.

Every time she’s over there, something special happens. A hummingbird pops by for nectar, a Monarch butterfly weaves through the garden … it’s Disney-movie-level stuff. Even more magical? Shaw said with that big picture window over the sink in the kitchen, you might even look forward to doing the dishes. Whaaa? There’s also an AGA range in there, so you can chef’s kiss your latest creations.

The entire home is beautifully updated and modern. Everything is crisp and clean, and the space is so flexible. It’s a four-bedroom home, but Shaw said there’s a smaller bedroom off the primary that would be a killer oversized closet. Similarly, there’s a small seating area downstairs that could be an office. The house is basically a square so light streams in from every direction. It’s really kind of dreamy. Or, like we said earlier, magical.

Kings Highway: Nostalgia in The Heart of The City

When you’re not inside admiring every inch of your new home, chances are you’ll be on the front porch where you can’t help but meet your neighbors and pretty much everyone else in the neighborhood. This house sits directly on the way to Twelve Hills Nature Center, Stevens Park Golf Course, Coombs Creek Trail, and about a dozen other destinations. And they all pass by. And they all really do wave.

Shaw said the neighborhood is like small-town Americana, but diverse. Your heart connects to the community and the people and it’s really crazy to believe it’s in the heart of the city.

If you’re skipping The Texas-OU game, you can stop by the open house from noon to 2 p.m. today, Oct. 7, or you can head over Sunday, Oct. 8 at the same time.

Compass Real Estate’s Albany Shaw has 1619 Kings Highway listed for $675,000.
