Killer BacteriaMonsters Are Eating My HouseWhere There’s Soot There Used to be FireThe Beast

It’s October, and at Green Scene Home Inspections, we LOVE Halloween. If you don’t believe me, here’s our owner, Clayton, at a recent Nails & Knowledge event for Realtors. Yep, those are candy corn pants.

Anyway, we love to decorate, and we have a big costume contest at the end of the month and everything. That being said, we like to keep the scary stuff where it belongs, outside of the workplace. But people are people, and they do the darndest things to their homes.

In honor of the season, here are some scary things we’ve found in people’s homes:

Killer Bacteria

Whatever is growing in this refrigerator/freezer has had several generations to get toxic to humans, and may have actually evolved the ability to speak. The smell alone has its own personality. Can y’all believe somebody left this for a poor home inspector to find?

Monsters Are Eating My House

Tiny monsters called wood-destroying insects, but still. Doesn’t the idea of tiny insects slowly eating your house kind of freak you out?

Where There’s Soot There Used to be Fire

Is there anything scarier than a house fire? Maybe having to cross a room full of spiders that’s on fire, but you take my point.

If you’re buying a house with previous fire damage, you need to get as much information as possible about what happened and what was damaged. Was it an electrical fire, and if so, has the electrical system or the cause of the fire been replaced? Was there any structural damage? Damage to plumbing, air ducts, roof, flooring? Water damage or mold from putting out the fire? There’s a lot to consider, and you need to look beyond the fresh coat of paint and cosmetic fixes.

@greenscenehome

Buying a home that has had a previous fire needs a thorough inspection of every system to check for damage. #askahomeinspector #firedamage

The Beast

And that is a spider. Which, even though it is a wolf spider and perfectly “safe,” it is the size of the palm of my hand, and therefore, NOPE. The inspector who took this photo said he almost flipped backward off his ladder when he saw this guy. To which another inspector responded, “What’s the scariest beast you’ve ever encountered on an inspection?”

“Rat.”

“Snake.”

“A Karen.”

And that was the end of that discussion. 🤣🤦‍♀️
