Stunning Mediterranean Compound on Boat Club Road

In the three years I have been writing for Daltxrealestate.com, I haven’t really done lakefront. Perhaps the torpor induced by the heat of another July in Texas drove me to water, in search of refreshment of the spirit. Eagle Mountain Lake, with its surrounding hills, is one of the more attractive and authentic looking man-made area lakes. It seems to get knocked about by the occasional tornado from time to time — as recently as June 19th of this year. In late May of 2011 the lakefront drive — Boat Club Road — suffered some minor damage. Built four years before, in 2007, 9931 Boat Club Road seems to have come through insolently unscathed.

Houses on Boat Club Road range from modest to majestic. The imposing Mediterranean villa at 9931 unequivocally belongs in the latter category. The imposing manse, with its proud, peaked red tile roof sits on nearly one and one-half acres sprinkled with atmospheric, mature palms.

The interior is every bit as grand as the exterior, with a commanding, handsomely framed iron front door and a stair gracefully winding in a turret. Oak hardwoods run throughout the ground floor. The floor plan of the 6,000-square-foot residence is open but with clearly defined spaces.

The foyer is double-height but the living area ceiling, while still high, drops to user-friendly proportions. And rooms are symmetrical. The central fireplace is two-sided and serves the smaller sitting room adjoining as well.

The cooktop is electric — bit of a disappointment — but the kitchen is otherwise stocked with all of the extras, including top-of-the-line appliances and custom cabinetry.

The second ground-floor living room, with its vaulted beamed ceiling, is nearly as grand as the formal one. In the corner is another fireplace.

On the second floor is a party room with a full wet bar. Windows along the wall frame lake views.

The master bedroom, one of four, is on the ground floor, part of a luxurious master suite with a master bathroom of lavish scale. There are four full baths and three half baths.

The exterior comes as a resounding crescendo with its stunning westward vistas. Are we in Puerto Vallarta? The outdoor living space has fans, a fireplace, an attached grill, and a pool running practically the full length of the arcaded loggia. The illusion is that of an infinity pool which meets the blue surface of Eagle Mountain Lake beyond. There is a private dock and three covered garage spaces.
