Midcentury-Inspired Northwest Dallas Home is Fun at Any Angle

Seguin-Dr.-HCHOTW

There’s only a very limited pool of midcentury modern homes in Dallas, and those that do hit the market tend to go quickly and for a premium. There’s a certain obsession with the architectural style, with low-pitched roofs, clerestory windows, and quirky floor plans.

Often times, truly vintage midcentury modern homes have two problems: they are small and they require a lot of updating.

However, smart builders are seeing the need for mid-mod-styled homes and meeting it with all-new construction in up-and-coming neighborhoods. There’s no better example than our High Caliber Home of the Week sponsored by Lisa Peters of Caliber Home Loans. It’s a new build from Freestyle Custom Homes, and it has all the fun angles, clean lines, and creative finish-out you love in a midcentury modern, but with the energy efficiency that today’s families demand.

When you fall in love with this listing from David Griffin & Company Realtor Janelle Alcantara, call Lisa Peters at Caliber Home Loans first thing. With her experience and know-how, she’ll help you sail through closing. And trust us, there’s plenty to love about this home.

The first thing you notice when you walk inside this four-bedroom, three-bathroom home just south of Walnut Hill and east of Marsh Lane are the soaring two-story ceilings from which a cool, atomic-era chandelier hangs. It’s dramatic, sure, but it’s the perfect introduction to this home. From here, you know that you are going to get an eyeful.

It’s great to see that the fun angles outside of 3772 Seguin Dr. continue through to the interiors. This 3,181-square-foot home has great lines, bright light, and those cool hardwood floors supplying plenty of character. It’s one of a few by Freestyle Custom Homes in the Marsh Lane area, and it’s priced at $739,000.

“I would like to convey that this home is for someone that really understands how to invest in real estate,” Alcantara said. “That kind of buyer will know that buying in a transitional neighborhood means that they have the best opportunity for significant property appreciation. The smart buyer will drive the streets, study the comps and easily recognize the upward momentum in the area.”

It’s true. 3772 Seguin is surrounded by smaller 1950s ranches that are plunked on their lots. This home, however, is large and has presence on its .23 acre parcel. Well, it’s large compared to its neighbors.

But, oh, you sure do get your bang for your buck right here. We love the warm wood on the kitchen cabinets, the cool lighting scheme, the flow of the communal spaces that keep everything open and airy, and the fantastic finish-out that feels contemporary and cool without being overly fussy.

“The floor plan is smart,” Alcantara says. “The open spaces are well balanced with private spaces.”

We agree, just as the large banks of windows are well balanced with the copious cabinetry and built-ins.

The master suite is on the first floor, and the three other bedrooms are upstairs. The landing, which overlooks the first-floor den and dining area, has a built-in desk and ample tree-top views. It’s a great space for daydreaming between chapters of the next great American novel, or for finishing that pesky algebra homework.

The master suite, though, is where you see some really brilliant design concepts shine.

“The master suite is refreshing,” Alcantara said. “It has wonderful light and openness, a closet to die for, and a bathroom designed for a happy couple — because nothing keeps a relationship on track like a two-person shower and separate toilets!”

Also clever is the way the huge master closet connects to the utility room. No more dragging your dirty clothes across the home to give them a bath! The laundry area is right there! The downside: no stealthy loads of delicates in the early hours while your mate rests in the nearby bedroom. It’s a wash for me.
