A House on Lobster Lane With Six Bedrooms and a Bunk Room… Right Across From This…

Drakes-Beach-1Let’s just call this my “on vacation in Maine” version of Monday Morning Millionaire. I am already running on island time, not dressing, wearing a bathing suit and flip flops. Why did I even bring make-up?

Maybe that’s why I am ready to buy 11 Lobster Lane, an adorable Cape Cod tucked away on a private little lane not exactly on the beach but right across the street from this:

Drakes-Beach-2

You have heard me talk about Drake’s Island before. It’s where my family has been summering for years, my husband for years before that. The island is not very big and there are no commercial anythings in the area, just seven miles of pristine beach, the river to the nationally recognized Wells Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm Farm and the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Preserve. Wells is the first town off the Island Road, and Kennebunkport is just up the coast. We can see the Colony Hotel from the beach.11-Lobster-lane-ext

1208339_13 1208339_21 1208339_31 There are usually two or three homes on the  island for sale, but this house, this year, is a very special one:

Tucked away on a private lane with the cutest name ever, neighboring homes lined with white picket fencing, is a wonderful 3000 ish square foot residence with six bedrooms, four baths and a bunk house. Talk about a grandparent’s delight! Of course there are ocean and marsh views, but this home is tucked away from the beach which you access by simply crossing the street. That gives it a lot of storm protection when you are not there but away enjoying home #3 or #4.

1208339_91 1208339_101 1208339_111 1208339_81Inside 11 Lobster Lane, you get a very comfortable beach or full time home. There is a large great room with vaulted ceilings, skylights, fireplace, hardwood floors and a built-in bar.

Bars are in huge demand at the beach, fyi.

The kitchen is brand new with granite counters and new stainless appliances plus a fun breakfast bar where 99% of the eating probably takes place. The master suite is pretty decked out too — literally! There is a walk-in closet, sitting room and private deck offering lovely ocean views and sea breezes. The private sitting area makes this a perfect retreat when you are, quite honestly, tiring of the family togetherness. (Which never happens in our family, oh no.)

1208339_12 1208339_14 1208339_15 1208339_16 1208339_17If that is not enough of a beach fix for you… there is a three season sunroom, screened in porch, hot tub, outside shower to shed the sand and a rooftop observation deck.

That hot tub is a godsend here, because the water is not all that warm: 55 degrees even in July and August. Sometime it gets up to 68 and I do go in. It’s exhilarating, but I have stayed in so long my body gets numb… oh how I wish that hot tub was on the beach!

For parties or large families, there is tons of parking with this home. That is important because when you have a beach home, everyone descends, and all in separate cars. Sometimes our place looks like a dang car lot.

The community of Drake’s Island offers some of the most wholesome seaside living ever with a Community house, family activities and loads of tennis. Today on the porch of OUR house, we watched the children’s summer camp parade by — priceless. Every Saturday is a Drake’s Island apparel sale. Plus the beach at Drakes, though public (shhh) are very private in feel. (They even took away the trash cans to give a more private feel!)

The tide pools formed at low tide are perfect for finding starfish and crabs. Watch for the occasional seal. Drake’s Island is renown as a less crowded beach with great waves for body surfing and boarding, skim boarding and swimming. The beach is also long and broad and feels very private.

Asking price for 11 Lobster Lane is $1,49,000. Listed with Anne Erwin Sotheby’s International Realty and worth every Maine penny!1208339_61
