Fort Worth Friday: Secluded Contemporary on Acre Feels Like Treetop Hideaway

When I was a kid, I really wanted a treehouse. I dreamed of a hidden place in the treetops where I could read books and draw, away from my worries. I badgered and begged to no avail, and to this day, treehouses are objects of fascination for me.

Today’s Fort Worth Friday satisfies that part of me wants a grown-up treehouse. The house a 5320 Quail Run Street is located on a quiet cul-de-sac in west Fort Worth near River Crest Country Club. With two decks, high ceilings, and oversized windows looking onto nearly one acre of trees, bushes, and a creek, it feels like a secluded spot away from the busy world.

This two-story beauty is certainly more sophisticated than any treehouse, however. It was built in 1961 and has three bedrooms and 2.5 baths in 3,515 square feet. Stone and natural materials are incorporated into the contemporary design in a truly unusual way, and the lush landscaping and shady walkways make the property a haven. It is listed by Joan Trew at WilliamsTrew for $749,900.

The star of the entryway is clearly the suspended staircase leading up to the second floor. Like many areas of this house, stone and marble are incorporated into the design for a sort of “bring-the-outdoors-in” feel. That modern chandelier is quite an attention-getter, too. But wait until you see the main living areas.

There are three large living rooms that flow seamlessly together under the soaring ceilings, thanks to the open floorplan and white walls and ceilings. The three room measure 37-by-11, 22-by-20, and 21-by-10, so no one will want for space here. There is a wet bar, hardwood floors throughout, built-in cabinetry, ceiling fans, a wood burning fireplace with modern stone surround, and decorative dividers to delineate the spaces. And those panoramic windows looking out over the treetops! Wonderful!

The living area below is unlike any I’ve seen before, with the natural stone on the walls, wood-paneled walls, skylights, and polished marble floors. One wall has built-in cabinets, glass shelves, and a wine rack. Like the entryway, the owners have chosen a memorable light fixture; in this case, a traditional-looking chandelier inside a wire globe. Love that.

The kitchen is just off the main living areas and measures 17-by-18. It has the same unusual cabinets as the living area above, along with stainless steel appliances, including two built-in refrigerator/freezers, commercial-grade range and vent, a convection oven, gas cooktop, and a warming drawer. There’s also a breakfast bar and unusual backsplash.

The master bedroom measures 20-by-18 and has a wall of windows, recessed lighting, walk-in closets, and a separate sitting area. The ensuite bathroom has dual sinks, a linen closet, medicine cabinet, separate shower, and separate vanities. And check out that clawfoot enameled bathtub with gold feet and fixtures against a natural stone wall and skylight. Wow.

Here’s one of the other bedrooms, measuring 19-by-18 with a wall of mirrors and walk-in closet.

5320-Quail-Run-UThe exterior of the house has an attached grill on one of two decks, as well as lighting, mosquito mist system, and sprinklers.

I’m smitten with the house and its marriage of contemporary style and natural materials. What do you think? Leave us a comment and let us know!
