In January 2020 we adopted a rescue dog. He had just turned one. He is half Corgi, half Chihuahua, half shepherd, half Lord knows what else. (No, we didn’t major in math.)

He is a side-sitter. He has a long, tubular body with exceptionally stubby legs. We named him Hazel.

Do I need to say it? Hazel, or Hazelberg as he is known in some circles, is simply not a well-built dog and he never shuts up. But by God, he is our dog and we love him although he does make us work awfully hard to do so sometimes.

I promise there is a point to all this. Hang in there.

This past May, Hazelberg being Hazelberg, developed a bulged disc in his neck. We do not know how it happened. When I asked the veterinarian for his guess he said, “Well look at him. He’s a tube.” Hazel’s response was to bark and yelp at the comment.

The vet said the best thing we could do for him was to keep him settled in a crate and make sure we gave him all his meds. The first thing we did was buy him a bigger crate so he could be comfortable.

With all that prelude, you will be glad to know we have reached the whole point of all that prelude.

The house featured in this week’s column looks like a dog crate.

This crate is located at 279 E Klein Rd, Ancram, New York. It has three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and has 2,500 square feet. It sits on almost 46 acres of land. The owners are asking $2.275 million.

Okay, okay. Perhaps I am being a little too hard on the appearance of this home. Let us see how the interior looks.

There is no way on God’s green earth that those pillows are soft enough for you to forget that you are sitting on concrete. I mean my butt has already fallen asleep looking at those pictures.

This guy knows what I am talking about.

No matter where you go you encounter the dog crate bars. I do not know about you, but Hazelberg is getting pretty stressed out.

You know what would make Hazel happy if he was forced to live in this house? A dog run would make him super happy.

But I get it, you only have 46 acres of land. Who needs a dog run even though it would make perfect sense for this ginormous dog crate of a house? So what if they do not own a dog? They are living in a dog crate.

Enough from me about this crate house. I am glad to report that after spending six weeks in his crate resting, Hazel’s neck has greatly improved. Needless to say, Hazelberg had a pretty strong response when I showed him this house.
