Adorable Winnetka Heights Craftsman Bungalow Was Featured on The Neighborhood’s Holiday Home Tour

In 1911, Winnetka Heights was advertised as “Dallas’ Ideal Suburb,” by the Russell Realty Company. According to the Winnetka Heights Neighborhood Association, it was platted in 1908 and developed as an ideal place to raise a family. An advertisement in The Dallas Morning News from 1910 claimed it had “beautiful paved streets, high altitude, a 12-minute car service, and artesian water.”

I’m not sure about the artesian water, but the rest holds true today.

Those first families built Arts and Crafts Prairie homes, and later built bungalows and cottages. The neighborhood became a historic district in 1981, which accounts for the incredible architectural integrity found here. It’s not terribly easy to find a home in Winnetka Heights because they are highly coveted and people tend to stick around because, frankly, it’s a wonderful neighborhood.

But you are in luck today as we have found a fully updated 1,632-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bathroom, 1925 Craftsman cottage that was featured on the 2015 Winnetka Heights Holiday Home Tour!

“The home has been re-imagined inside and out to be both an entertainer’s dream and a gardener’s delight,” Dave Perry-Miller listing agent Emily Ruth Cannon said.

No one wants a project today, so this is truly a find with 10-foot beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, beautiful custom millwork, an updated kitchen, and bathrooms that have maintained the period charm but are fully renovated.

Not only has the interior been updated, but there is a wonderful outdoor living area in this Craftsman bungalow. The back porch features a TV visible from the hot tub, which, lucky for you, stays with the house. It’s perfect for impromptu gatherings.

There is unfinished space above the garage where you can let your imagination run wild. It would make an excellent art studio or could be turned into guest quarters.

It’s an exciting time in Winnetka Heights, as Kevin P. Sloan park is about to take shape, creating yet another enviable neighborhood destination.

Creation of the park meant the removal of the Jefferson Blvd. – 12th Street connector — the six-lane roadway that has cut through the neighborhood since 1967. Removing a street in Dallas had never been done. It’s another testament to the strength of the well-organized Winnetka Heights neighborhood and it’s going to increase the value of this Craftsman bungalow in future years, so this is definitely the time to give Cannon a call!

Emily Ruth Cannon with Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate has 203 S. Winnetka Ave. available for $599,900. Cannon is hosting an open house on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m.
